Is it just me or does it seem like as soon as the weekend rolls around, I become the cookie monster, or more specifically the lemon pepper wing and Chik fil A monster? I was doing sooo well this past week and I am really disappointed in myself that I messed up my progress by overeating. My trainer gave me a goal of 3 pounds to lose and I ended up gaining 0.3 lbs (not that bad). I was really beating myself because I know better, but my desire for the FRIED lemon pepper wings consumed me and I gave in to it. I tried to give myself a pep talk because hey everyone mistakes, but the thoughts in my head just wouldn’t let me forgive myself. It wasn’t until I went to church on Sunday and my pastor started talking about Perseverance that I started to let these thoughts go.
PERSEVERANCE: steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
Instead of me focusing on doing everything right, I should focus on persevering through. We all have weak moments where we choose to do the very thing that will hinder our weight loss journey. But the keyword here is JOURNEY. This is our time to learn from our mistakes, but keep moving ahead on the journey.
God is not looking for perfection, but perseverance! There are countless stories in the bible that embodies that statement. Many men and women were given a task/assignment to complete from God, all of them had stumbling blocks on the journey, and some even made poor choices intentionally, but God always steered them back on the right track. They persevered through and we are able to reap the benefits of their perseverance! Anytime you find yourself beating yourself up because of a poor decision, just remember that God loves you despite it and through pray and discipline, He will get you back on the right track!
God has given my sister and I an assignment to lose this weight and share it with you all to show that perseverance is greater than perfection! And prayerfully, when this assignment is complete, many people will be able to benefit from our perseverance!
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God ha promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12)
